Educational Offerings






  • Stanford Geriatric Educational Center :  The Stanford Geriatric Education Center provides a variety of ethnogeriatric programs and curriculum resource materials to educate health care professionals on the cultural issues associated with aging and health. The SGEC promotes cultural sensitivity and cultural competence to improve the quality of health care delivered to the rapidly growing population of ethnic minority elders in the United States.

          1. Information and tips on healthy aging, care giving, medications, dietary
             supplements, and diseases. Resources are available in both English and
             Spanish. Copies also are provided in PDF format where applicable.
             Print versions are available for online ordering.   
          2. Research Programs (Extramural) supported by NIA, including studies on the
              mechanisms of aging, the processes of aging, aging and the nervous system,
             and aging in relation to health and disease. NIA supports four extramural
              research programs:

           1. Updated Practice Guideline for the Prevention of Falls in Older Persons
               Moderators shared the latest draft of the updated guideline on preventing falls                     at the 2006 AGS Meeting. CE offered to nurses/APNs.

          2. Improving Geriatric Quality of Life
               Learn the basic principles for handling ethical situations involved in elder abuse.
               CE offered to nurses/APNs.
           3. Improving Geriatric Quality of Life by Integrating Eastern and Western
               Medicine AGS 2006: Integrative medicine for the elderly. Will East ever meet                     West? CE offered to nurses/APNs.
           4. A Year in Review and Looking Ahead: New Pharmaceutical Treatment Options
               in the Elderly  CE
